If Jesus is God . . . who “died” on the cross?
It's a mystery. Next question, please.

You are absolutely right—that is not an answer. Let's try again, this time we'll put some scholarship into it. Bearing in mind these words of Jesus, in prayer to his father, found in John 17:3:

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Clearly Jesus wants us to know him and to know his father. He does not pray that we would be willing to stake our eternal lives on a mystery. So, is Jesus human or God? Let's investigate.

Why does Paul write so much about promises to Abraham? That doesn't apply to me, does it?
In a word—yes. And in a Bible verse: And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:29)
